Stone cold facts about paper in schools

We all know the importance that handwritten notes have on learning, especially in schools. However, not everyone is aware of the sheer amount of paper that is used throughout one school day.

Paper waste is on the rise
Average student generates 22kg of paper waste per year.
30% of all print jobs are never even picked up from the printer.
A school will use on average 2,000 paper sheets per day.
Schools spend around half a billion euros on paper each year.

We’re consuming paper like there is no tomorrow

Imagine the positive impact of changing our writing habits in a way that we save trees and reduce paper waste. That's where teachers like you come in. You are in an ideal position to inspire new generations to think differently from an early age. If you are looking towards our future, single-use paper is hard to justify.

Student activities

Plenty of material like "Eco-Jeopardy" or "Paperless Week" to encourage students to think critically and creatively about sustainability in the classroom.

It's time to educate & activate

Step 1 - Awareness

"It's paper, what's the big deal?"

There are quite a few eye-opening facts about the paper industry that seem to go unnoticed by the public eye. While the airline and food industry grab much of the attention, it seems no one is talking about the devastating effects of deforestation on our planet.
Browse through the teaching material. If it triggers you, dig a bit deeper to get familiar with it. And if you fell the need to act, you will hopefully find a way to integrate the topic into your curriculum.
Step 2 - Engagement

Get young minds thinking

You know your kids best. Pick and choose activities that fit your teaching style and keep students engaged and learning.
Whether it's the Paperless Week Challenge, Brainstorm Sessions, Tree Guardians, Eco-Jeopardy, or Random Acts of Green, select activities that fit your curriculum and resonate with what you want to teach.
Step 3 - Activation

Celebrate the wins

We hope your kids fall in love with the idea that there's no longer a need to cut down trees for paper. Remind them that when it comes to sustainability, there is no action too small.
And, as you see habits changing, don't forget to celebrate the progress!
